Achille Beltrame was born when Italy had just become a united state — and he died when megalomania had ended in Italy's deepest shame. As eventful as the times were in and for Italy — in Beltrame they had an illustrious illustrator, a "chronicler with brush and pencil". From 1899, Achille Beltrame was an artist for La Domenica del Corriere. Over the course of forty-five years, he published 4,662 works in the weekly. Through the images he created, unique events happening in the world reached the most remote and inaccessible corners of Italy: the hut of a villager and the shack of a mountaineer, providing an avalanche of news and knowledge for generations of Italians who might otherwise have been unaware of what was happening. Achille Beltrame is rightly called not only a master of graphics but also a master of the art of journalism.
